Scientific name: Artocarpus odoratissimus
Marang (Artocarpus odoratissimus Blanco), also known as Tarap, is a tropical evergreen Moraceae tree related to jackfruit and chempedak. POWO lists Borneo as native and the Philippines as introduced, not native. Institutional accounts describe heights up to about 25–35 m, varying by source; this is not a promised garden height. The large rough leaves are entire or lobed, with younger leaves sometimes more deeply divided. The multiple fruit turns from green to yellowish-brown and has soft flexible projections. Sweet fragrant white flesh around the seeds consists of thickened flower perianths, not true arils. Seeds are documented as food after boiling or roasting. Ripe fruit is delicate and short-lived; harvest carefully, avoid drops and bruising and consume near ripeness. A 2022 study supports distinguishing it from A. mutabilis, which POWO still treats as a synonym. The main image is computer-generated for illustration only, not botanical documentation.

This is a tropical tree with no verified Israeli regional trial available to us. Cultivation in Israel is experimental and requires a warm, cold- and wind-protected site, drained soil and irrigation adjusted to substrate moisture.
No Israeli irrigation schedule was verified for this species. Check soil moisture and adjust to season, substrate and tree size, avoiding both a dry root zone and standing water.
No cold-damage threshold was verified for this species under Israeli conditions. A temperature number is not a hardiness guarantee; protect against cold and frost beyond the seedling years too.
Time to first fruit in Israel is unverified; propagation method and plant size do not guarantee a specific bearing year.
No cultivar name was supplied for the offered plants. Grafted and air-layered describe propagation methods, not cultivar names.
